Yamaha Cascara Jingle Wedge
The idea for the Groove Wedge came about because Russ Miller preferred to use smaller 12” and 13” snare drums in the studio, but because they were small he couldn´t get to the ‘sweet spot´ on the stick for a good cross-stick sound. The solution was to bolt a section of a Vintage Maple wood hoop onto the tuning bolts of any drum with metal rims and play the cross stick on this ‘wedge´.
Russ Miller - Studio Legend : "The Jingle-Wedge came out of the Groove-Wedge idea. Once I started using the Groove-Wedge, I noticed that it had many more benefits. I do a lot of sessions as well as touring with contemporary Pop and R&B artists. Many times, I am called to emulate "sampled" drum sounds. The Jingle-Wedge can be added to any drum for layering a drum sound with a tambourine-type nuance. This works great for stacking a tambourine onto the snare drum backbeats for Pop. R&B and especially Country music. The Jingle-Wedge also provides an additional instrument on the kit. It has a great "woody" "Palito" sound layered with jingles for Afro-Cuban music."
The Jingle Wedge is a variation on the original Groove Wedge with added tambourine jingles, offering a variety of percussive timbres.
